David and I were friends for over 75 years after first meeting at school in 1943/44.   It was he who talked me into joining Ardleigh Green Cricket Club.   We still met fairly regularly together with other “oldies” from the CC until lockdown intervened.   
David was an excellent cricketer and useful footballer.   He always gave 100% and was at his best when spirit and determination were needed.   
He was a positive and lively character, always ready with a joke and will be missed by all who knew him.   
I attach copies of two photos which include David in his teens playing for school and youth club in the late 1940s
